It’s Cat visiting night at the museum and the cats are quick to notice that there aren’t many of their kind in these wonderful paintings. So one cat takes it upon herself to add them in.
He goes to Paris with his best friend Miles for inspiration, and among the sites, the masterpieces and thanks to the Eiffel tower he finds it!
Katie goes to the museum with her grandmother and before she knows it she is in the paintings and the world of the painters and their families. Katie goes from painting to painting gathering flowers for her grandma and exploring a world on the other side of the canvas.
This wordless book has a clear strong message – that if exposed children can loose themselves in art, it opens a new world with new adventures before unseen! The story opens with a little boy on a school field trip to a museum, he looses his group , and soon finds himself in the art. After completing many mazes he is given a medal before he rejoins his group.
This book follows a group of mice that all explore the museum, and the art on it’s walls. Each page is a different theme and the text is a dialogue between the mice and their Cat guide about the art displayed. The art itself are the author illustrator’s versions of art you will probably recognize. There are multiple paintings on each page and if you are like me and like to quiz yourself on your ability to name the painting and artist this book is for you. There is a guide at the end of the book for every page.MoMeMahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04242019636309392604noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099144675906847596.post-64856564068063890422012-09-10T19:51:00.000-04:002012-09-10T19:51:03.847-04:00Glad Monster, Sad Monster- Feeling Masks

A solid color shirt and a permanent fabric paint are needed. Pour a small amount of the paint onto a plate or piece of newspaper. Let the kids rub their hands around in the paint; they can mix a few colors together if they want. It could also be amusing to put their footprints on the shirts as well. Paint hand prints can also be placed on canvas, printer paper or construction paper. These forms of memorabilia can make great keepsakes as your child grows. You may add your school name, child's name or any tittle that you want.☺☻☺
Have the kids collect rocks from around the yard or from a short nature walk you all take together. Watercolors are very suitable paints for this activity since other paints can be a little more expensive. All that is needed is a cup of water, water paints and a couple of children's paintbrushes. Painting and repainting the rocks can lead to hours of enjoyment.☺☻☺

☺☻☺For older kids, have bigger rocks such as; river rocks to paint them with patterns, lines or rainbow colors. This will make a great paper weight or a nice gift.☺☻☺
A blank sheet of paper, sponges and paint are all you need. You can leave the sponges in their rectangular shape, or you can cut them into varied shapes. You might even be able to find the sponges already in shapes, letters or numbers. Pour the paint onto a plate and dip one side of the sponge into the paint. The kids can either start with their sponges on their paper right away, or you can have them dab the sponge a little on an extra piece of paper so the paint isn't too thick or doesn't run.☺☻☺

Cardboard strip about 12" (30 cm) long and 1/2" (1.5 cm) to 2" (5 cm) wide

Wallpaper paste

Newspaper torn into small strips about 1/2" x 2" (1.5 cm x 5 cm)

Strips of thin white paper

Stapler

Supplies for decorating the bracelet: tempera paints, felt pens, or liquid starch and colored tissue paper

Scissors

Clear gloss enamel (optional)

What You Need To Do:

Help your child measure a cardboard strip bracelet around her wrist. Make sure the bracelet is large enough to fit over her hand and allow a little extra space for the thickness added by the papier-mache.

Remove the strip from your child's wrist, overlap the ends, and staple.

Help your child dip a strip of newspaper into the wallpaper paste and wrap it around the bracelet. Repeat this step until the bracelet is covered with at least three layers of newspaper strips.

Cover the bracelet with strips of thin white paper until the newspaper is completely covered and does not show through. The paper should adhere without extra paste, but feel free to add extra paste if necessary.

Let the bracelet dry for several days. Try hanging the bracelet on a cardboard tube, clothes hanger, or clothesline for faster drying.

When the bracelet is completely dry, help your child decorate the bracelet by painting it with tempera paint or drawing designs on it with felt pens. You can also cover the bracelet with liquid starch and pieces of colored tissue paper.

Let the bracelet dry again. Once dry, you can coat the bracelet with clear gloss enamel for a shiny, protective finish (optional).

Dig them out and identify them or count them. We used this as a way to learn about letters as we used items that all began with “T”.

☺Make a collage with a variety of textured items that you can find (bolts, feathers, beans, dirt/sand, plastic wrap, etc.)

☺Imprint textures into plaster, play dough or into goop.

☺Finger paint – explore with textures in different colors of paint (glitter, oatmeal, cornstarch, salt, spices, shaving cream, glue, etc.). Another variation: paint with feet.

☺Have a texture hunt & collect things that are smooth, slimy, dull, pointy, wet, hard, bumpy or soft, etc.

☺Learn about heavy and light objects by having your child accumulate some items from around the house and weighing them on a scale. Have your child weigh themselves.

☺Sculpt with a sheet of aluminum foil. Try making cups, balls, boxes, waves, etc. After ward, paint the crinkled surface of the foil and make a print of your “texture”.

☺Test Textures. Lightly scratch your forearm with the following and talk about how they feel different: Q-tips, Fork, Ice cube, feather, sandpaper or dish scrubby. Try a second round where they are blindfolded. Can they guess what touched them?

☺Play with a felt shape board to create different patterns. Try making one blindfolded.
☺Make impressions of items and textures in clay.MoMeMahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04242019636309392604noreply@blogger.com0
